Our verdict

  • Good influence 3/5
  • Parent appeal 4/5
  • Well made 4/5

Reviewers highlight the series' iconic visual design and imaginative futuristic world-building as its strongest assets. While the family dynamics are generally supportive and positive, many critics point to the pervasive 1960s gender stereotypes and lack of diversity as significant drawbacks. The show is often regarded as a charming piece of retro-satire that remains entertaining for adults despite its formulaic sitcom writing.

Why these scores

Good influence

Does it show behaviour you'd be happy to see copied?

3out of 5

The show presents a warm nuclear family that values teamwork and mutual support, with characters who generally resolve conflicts in a gentle manner. However, these positive traits are heavily undercut by a constant reliance on dated 1960s gender stereotypes and a total lack of racial diversity. Reviewers frequently note that the humor often comes at the expense of female characters portrayed as shop-obsessed or incompetent.

Parent appeal

Will you enjoy watching it with them?

4out of 5

Most reviewers find the show charming and witty, offering a clever satirical take on contemporary life through its futuristic lens. While some adult viewers find the repetitive sitcom tropes and formulaic plots tedious, others appreciate the show's prescient commentary on technology and human nature.

Well made

Are the writing, animation and sound made with care?

4out of 5

The series is widely celebrated for its distinctive 'Googie' architectural aesthetic and imaginative world-building. While critics occasionally point to repetitive scripts and limited animation techniques used for cost-cutting, the iconic voice cast and lively big-band jazz score are consistently praised as top-tier.
