Our verdict
- Good influence 3/5
- Parent appeal 3/5
- Well made 3/5
Reviewers highlight a strong, intelligent female protagonist and positive racial representation as the show's core strengths. However, these are often balanced against a family dynamic that frequently relies on mean-spirited humor and the mocking of a sibling for comedic effect. While the action sequences and lead performance are praised, the scripts can feel formulaic and repetitive to older viewers.
Why these scores
Good influence
Does it show behaviour you'd be happy to see copied?
3out of 5
The show presents a starkly divided picture of role models. While the protagonist is widely praised as a strong, intelligent, and capable female lead who excels in STEM, there is heavy criticism regarding the show's treatment of her brother, Ernie, which many viewers describe as persistent bullying and neglect played for laughs. Furthermore, while many appreciate the positive representation of a professional Black family, others find the recurring rudeness, sarcasm, and parental favoritism to be problematic.
Parent appeal
Will you enjoy watching it with them?
3out of 5
Adult viewers are split on the show's appeal; some find the spy plots sophisticated and the wit sharp enough to elicit genuine laughter, while others describe the humor as predictable and repetitive. Several reviews mention that the mean-spirited treatment of certain characters or the use of cringey dialogue can make the experience tedious for parents. However, the inclusion of the parents as active participants in the spy missions provides a layer of family dynamic that many find more engaging than typical sitcoms.
Well made
Are the writing, animation and sound made with care?
3out of 5
The series is noted for high-quality stunt work, well-choreographed fight scenes, and a creative use of costumes and gadgets that suit the spy genre. The lead actress's performance is consistently singled out as a highlight that elevates the show above its peers. However, the writing is frequently criticized for being formulaic and predictable, and the reliance on a canned laugh track is a common point of irritation in reviews.
